Highway - element of the male costume, appeared in use in Europe in the early Middle Ages. Initially chausses represented fitting stockings up to the upper thighs, made of elastic cloth brightly colored. On the sides were attached to the girdle chausses short linen pants, called BDT. In some cases, a highway sewn leather soles, which allowed them not to wear over shoes. In XIV-XV centuries in the design of the wardrobe items appear wedges with which to connect steel rear first and then the upper front part of the stocking. Seaming chausses were attached to the doublet by means of ties.
